Essayrater looks interesting – for writers

While putting several articles to bed the other day I came across EssayRater.  This site will be of most interest to Teachers and students but if you are like me and you like your freelance writing to be the best it can be, you might find this site of interest.

As an online “checks and balance” tool, Essayrater appears to have a very nice interface – easy to use, simple to understand and it’s also relatively quick.

You simply copy and paste your work into the area provided and the system then runs through a number of parameters checking things such as originality, sentence structure, punctuation, etc.

Free or Premium Service

The service is available for free use but to gain more in-depth information you will want to sign up for the Premium service.  I tried doing this – there are two options – Monthly $19.95 and a three month option for $39.95.  Payment is by credit card or PayPal.

I had a bit of a problem processing the PayPal payment due to the fact it didn’t want to recognize my US Dollar account which is in the US.  It insisted on processing an e-check from my Canadian account for some reason and when I wanted to change this and simply pay directly from my US account it kept insisting I needed to add a debit/credit card – which I’ve already done.  A PayPal glitch?  Perhaps, but it may also have something to do with the way in which this site has actually set up the payment process.  I’m not sure.

Overall Impressions

The site certainly provides a good deal of information related to your writing.  You’ll receive enough feedback under the Free option to allow you to improve upon any areas that might be weak.  The report provides you with “Alerts” which are clearly indicated and can then be corrected.  Some things such as Plagiarism sources etc., are not accessible unless you have the subscription option already in place (paid for the service).

Jazz up your writing

One issue I noticed was a day after I had signed up – I attempted to log in and the system indicated my email and password were not accurate.  Odd, I entered it exactly as I’d written it down.

Aside from the few little oddities I experienced, I would still consider paying for this service.  This site appears to be off to a good start and they’ve already processed over 600,000 papers.  They have a specific area for Teachers and faculty members but I think this could be of benefit to anyone who wants to ensure their writing is top notch.

Test out the free offering and see what you think.  Never know, you could find yourself landing more assignments if EssayRater becomes part of your “secret weapon” toolbox and that is always a good thing!
